Knowing About ALG’s Freight Brokerage Services
Moving your cargo from Point A to Point B, safely, is critical. Many organizations, therefore, opt for the services offered by freight brokers.
Freight brokers are an intermediary of the transport industry who serves as a connecting link between the shipper and carrier. In today’s market, there are hundreds of individuals and organizations offering freight broking services. So, choosing the right partner among the lot is extremely vital.
American Logistics Group Inc, which also goes by ALG, is a federally regulated and bonded Freight broker company. Since 2006, we are providing cutting-edge technology, excellent customer service, and time-saving products.
In this blog, we are going to briefly explain the freight brokerage services provided by us. But before we get into it you must know that it has been more than 15 years since we started on this journey as a freight broker. We know most of the roadblocks of this business and it’s safe to say that we have found our way to beat the odds and deliver desired results.
Here is the brief of the freight brokerage services we provide:
OTR Transportation
In a commercial context, OTR stands for “Over The Road.”
OTR transportation refers to the movement of commodities using the road route. Trucks or tractor-trailer rigs are typically used for this form of transportation. OTR transportation is of two types FTL and LTT.
- FTL (“Full Truck Load”)
FTL is a ground transportation service. Under the scope of these services, the whole available space on the transport truck is allotted to a single load, which implies a single client for transporting their products.
FTL services are generally required by businesses that are looking to haul bulk items and heavy loads across long distances. FTL is also a popular service for transporting temperature-controlled commodities and sensitive items.
- LTT (“Less Than Truckload”)
This solution allows the customer to transport loads on a smaller scale and at a price that is associated with the volume shipment. The main advantage of TLT is cost saving as the customer only needs to pay for the portion of the trailer occupied.
In TLT, a single trailer carries shipments from different shippers.
Intermodal
Intermodal freight refers to moving goods from point A to B, nationally or internationally, using several modes of transportation viz. ship, truck, train and aircraft. Several transporters come together in completing an intermodal freight within the same itinerary, yet using different transport methods.
In intermodal freight, multiple transporters are involved in drawing a plan that starts with collecting the goods from the manufacturer or their warehouse right to deliver them to the end customer.
Intermodal freight reduces the task of handling cargo which improves the security of the commodities, reduces damage and loss, and allows freight to be transported faster.
Each mode of transport is regulated by state or national authorities. Therefore, legal requirements are at the center of intermodal transportation. The freight brokers need to know and ensure compliance with all laws applicable at various stages of transportation. One non-compliance can open doors to many strict actions including huge penalties.
Drayage
Drayage service is opted for when one wants to transport goods over a short distance. It is a small part of a long supply chain plan. Sometimes, it only involves moving goods from a ship to a warehouse. This logistics chain has arrival and departure points in the same city or state and does not include long haul.
The term drayage has many connotations. Here are a few modes of transportation that come under the ambit of drayage:
- Moving cargo from port to port;
- Moving cargo from a port to a rail yard to begin the next leg of its journey;
- Delivering the cargo to the ultimate location
